NETUA

Synopsis

'Netua' is a story of the sociological analysis of a traditional occupation (now endangered) which peels off the deep layers of inhuman exploitation of a folk artist associated with it. 'Netua' is the social articulation of feudalism and sexual perversion. Jhamna born in a lower caste becomes orphan in his childhood. Gradually ultimate dancing skills of his maternal grandfather propels jhamna to adopt "Netuagiri" as a profession.  After entering into this profession, he realizes the hidden artist within himself and goes the extra mile to acquire perfection but gets sexually exploited by landlords. The situation gets worsened upto such an extent that when Jhamna brings his young bride, people of landlords try to rape her as a legacy provided to them. And here Jhamna loses his patience and bursts out to protect his wife from getting tainted.

 

The Director

Dilip Kumar Gupta trained from Himachal Culture Research Forum & Theatre Academy, Mandi(H.P.) has been involved in theatre for fifteen years has been participated in more than 50 plays as an actor, director and designer. He has worked as a professional artist with the leading theatre repertory company ‘Shri Ram Centre Repertory Company, New Delhi’ from 2007-2011. He shows multifaceted work in the field of theatre and media as an actor, director, script writer, designer and instructor. Dilip has acted in many media productions like short films, serials and corporate films with different production companies and also acted in film the film ‘Horn Pukare’ for world bank project directed by Sai Paranjpey, feature films ‘Rockstar’ directed by Imtiyaz Ali and ‘Anaarkali of Aarah’ directed by Avinash Das. Dilip has also achieved Inlaks Theatre Award 2009 from Inlaks Foundation.

    

The Playwright

Birth: January 6, 1951, Darbhanga (Bihar)

Ratan Verma is an active literary writer in almost all the forms of writing. His three short story collections, a poem collection and four novels are published. The novel titled ‘Netua Karam Bada Dukhdayi’ has been popularly acclaimed by readers. He has been facilitated with various prestigious awards. In the last decade of 20th century, his play Netua has been announced one of the best plays by Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi.
